The Whittlesea Show this year was used as an experiment in innovation. Exhibitors swapped animals prior to entering the ring and the Judge could not know whose animals were whose. This went down well with exhibitors, with very positive feedback received after the show.
As there were no horses at Whittlesea this year because of equine influenza, the Society asked if the alpacas could be judged in the main arena as a public attraction. Unfortunately rain prevented the classes being judged out in the open, but we held off the Championships until the very end to allow time for the rain to ease. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, and the Championships were judged and awarded in front of quite a crowd of spectators.
The Society further asked if the alpacas could go in the Grand Parade later that afternoon, and of course everyone happily obliged, to the delight of onlookers. Whittlesea Show proved a wonderful promotion for alpacas.
A big thank you to all who made this possible.
